Hi , Christopher used our done-for-you model to create passive income after retirement. This is the story of a passive vending business owner.
When he retired from his first career, he wasn’t looking for another full-time job.
He wanted something smarter, a way to put a portion of his retirement funds to work, reduce tax exposure, and create supplemental income alongside commissions from his new career.

Starting with a Clear Strategy
Christopher didn’t jump in blindly. He took time to review our website, speak with our onboarding team, and understand how the process worked.
What stood out to him most was how structured everything felt.
From day one, our team walked him through each phase, including helping him form an LLC and even select a company name that aligned with his other side projects. The goal was to make sure the business was built correctly from the start.
Choosing the Right Location
Christopher already had a location in mind that he believed was a “no-brainer.” (We at DFY Vending work with our clients to find them the best location that works best)
It was a mall in Texas, just a few miles north of an international bridge crossing from Mexico, an area heavily visited by Mexican tourists coming specifically to shop.
Before moving forward, our team professionally vetted the site and confirmed it was an excellent placement opportunity. Once approved, we provided design samples and templates for both the machine and the accompanying website to streamline setup.
A Surprising Product Winner
For his first machine, Christopher chose the Hot Wheels product line.
While he wasn’t a collector growing up, he quickly discovered how massive and passionate the Hot Wheels community really is. With guidance from our team, he began paying attention to upcoming product “waves” and seasonal trends, even preparing themed inventory for holidays like Halloween.
Real Results, Fast
In his first month alone, Christopher’s vending machine generated over $1,000 in sales.
He’ll be the first to admit that he would have been happy with half of that.
To boost visibility, he partnered with a local influencer he’d known since childhood. Two short videos were created: one sharing his story as a retired firefighter, and another speaking directly to toy collectors. Sales picked up almost immediately after the videos went live.
Christopher’s example shows how external marketing can be used to boost your passive vending setup’s sales.
Time Commitment? Minimal.
Christopher spends about three to four hours per week managing the business.
That includes stopping by the machine every other day for light cleaning and small inventory adjustments, nothing overwhelming, and nothing that interferes with his lifestyle.
This time can be further reduced through minor adjustments.
Looking Ahead
Compared to traditional brick-and-mortar businesses, Christopher finds vending far easier to manage. He appreciates that it’s flexible enough to run himself or involve family members like his son or nephew.
He’s already planning to add a second machine within the next year and has begun recommending DFY Vending to colleagues.
When asked what he’d tell someone on the fence, his answer was simple:
“If you have the capital and the time, just do it. I have no regrets.”
